Flight Attendant
What would our airline experiences be like without a flight attendant to take care of us? A flight attendant, also known as a steward or stewardess, provides passengers with the best experience possible on a flight, seeing to their every need, as well as their safety. However working flight attendant jobs sometimes comes with a stereotype attached. Many people immediately think of the sexy flight attendant, flirting with the passengers in high heels and revealing flight attendant uniforms. Anymore, this is no where near the norm for flight attendants. A flight attendant must be a server, information provider, sometime babysitter, plus always keep a watchful eye for unusual or possibly dangerous situations. This job is not just about handing out drinks and pillows.

The images seen in flight attendant pictures shows an airline stewardess as a sex symbol rather than a professional service provider. Stewardesses are often mistreated by the passengers on their flights because of this stigma. Many of those in flight attendant positions have attended flight attendant school and are actively pursuing goals toward a long term flight attendant career. These hard working people should be treated with the utmost in respect and dignity, rather than as eye candy for the often amorous travelers they encounter in a day. These men and women alike, must deal with demanding and irritated customers every day as a flight attendant, with little thanks from their customers.
The sex symbol stigma should be left with the flight attendant Halloween costumes and their inaccurate portrayal of the stewardess and stockings. A stewardess costume is just that, a costume, the job associated with it is quite difficult and requires the utmost in professionalism. No matter how they are asked to dress while doing their jobs, an air stewardess should be recognized for the high quality level of service they provide, not for the flight attendant costume that they are wearing. The next time you are on a plane, go out of your way to let your flight attendant know just how much their hard work is appreciated. You will most certainly make their day a little brighter. |
